Kiran
I am a Cultural History Masters graduate from the University of Liverpool, where I specialised in food history. I chose to specialise in this subject because, as a British- Pakistani woman, I always felt a connection with my ‘Asianness’ through my love of ‘hamarakhanna’ [our food]. I view food as the gateway to understanding my own culture. This is why I was delighted when I came across this Project. The oral histories that I will be uncovering as part of this project will not only expand my knowledge of this culinary world that I know and love, but it will also allow me to explore the impact that ‘hamarakhanna’ had on first generation South Asian immigrants when they first settled in Britain.'
